This is certainly a well-known and unwelcome feeling. The abrasive nature of the stuff can be quite uncomfortable. It’s also the name of a tropical alcoholic beverage. You can learn how to make them here.
The purpose of this post, however, is not what happens after Sex on the Beach, rather the little-seen world of sand. I know, doesn’t sound terribly exciting. But magnify those grains of sand by 250, and you are welcomed into a whole new, stunning world of shapes and colors. The treasures seen would lure even the bravest treasure-hunters, and incur the curiosities of the most feared pirates. If only they were a bit bigger.
Professor Gary Greenberg of University College London has photographed these minuscule grains of sand to amazing splendor. He searched the globe to gather specimens to photograph using a new technique. What he uncovers is truly amazing.
